David Masterwille Bio
David A. Masterwille is a highly acclaimed, multiple award-winning filmmaker, recognized for his work in both documentary and fiction films. He recently directed and produced the supernatural thriller Chioma, which won Best Feature Film and Best Young Actress at the 2023 Black Star International Film Festival. David also took home the top prize at the Benpaali Film Festival’s Environmental Film Challenge, titled Artivism, for his short documentary Kpeshie Egbo (Dead Lagoon).
David and his team recently won the NFA/OIF Co-Production Grant to produce a musical film that centers on illegal mining.
In addition to his recent success, David has produced several notable documentaries, including the award-winning Gold Is Here (2014) and Gilberte’s World (2016), which was filmed in Mauritius.
His films have been featured at numerous international festivals, including the Black Star International Film Festival, Durban International Film Festival, Zanzibar International Film Festival, AFRIFF, and AfryKamera Film Festival. He also directed the video campaigns for Ghana’s highly successful Year of Return in 2019, including the historic visit of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Congressional Black Caucus.
David holds a BFA in Film Directing from the University of Media, Arts, and
Communication. He is the founder and managing director of AdomiBridge Studios, a film production company based in Accra, Ghana.
